From the Office of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments - January 27, 2020

At the request of His Excellency, the most Reverend Gregory John Hartmayer Bishop of Savannah, in his letter dated August 20, 2018, Prompted by the prayers and requests of the clergy and the faithful, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, in virtue of special faculties given by the Supreme Pontiff Francis, gladly bestows on the cathedral dedicated to God in honor of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia, the title and dignity of minor basilica with all the laws and liturgical rights faithfully observed according to the decree
"Domus Eccelesiae",
promulgated on the Ninth of November 1989. Anything to the contrary notwithstanding.
