1. Why has America Gone to War? Marker

Inscription. Why so Many Wars? Why would a nation that values peace and freedom as its primary virtues fight in so many wars?

Freedom! The United States of America fight for Freedom! Freedom for ourselves, starting with the American Revolutionary War. Freedom from tyranny, freedom from aggression, and freedom from our allies.

Security! We have fought for Security for our citizens from foreign aggression, such as Germany and Japan, leading to World War II. Security against terrorism at home and abroad and security for our allies.

Land! As a new nation, conflicts, and wars were fought for the control of land from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans and from the borders of Canada to Mexico. This land now forms the continental United States.

What Have We Gained? We have fought for and maintained the Freedom and security of our country, our allies around the world, and the land that we know as the United States of America. (Marker Number W17.)
