1. Phillips Shoes Marker

Inscription. In 1972, Jack Phillips and his sister, Betty, bought Fred's dollar store and an adjoining restaurant from their brother Fred Phillips and opened Phillips shoes. The store would become a cornerstone business in downtown Monterey for 40-years. Jack operated the store until 2008 when he died. The store was purchased that same year by Frank and Jeannie Templeton. The local couple decided to sell the building in 2021.
