In 1874, the Oosterspoorweg, Amsterdam - Hilversum - Amersfoort, was established, but apart from Naarden, Bussum and Hilversum, the other places in the Gooi did not have a station. To achieve better accessibility of the other villages in the Gooi, the Gooische Stoomtram was established on 17 December 1880. One of the initiators was Jan Hamdorff. He had a hotel in Laren and he hoped to attract more guests through a better connection. The Amsterdam - Laren route was opened in phases between 17 May 1881 and 15 April 1882. At the same time as Naarden - Laren, the Hilversum - Huizen tram line was put into use on 15 April 1882.(Submitted on March 18, 2025.)
