Krijtmolen d'Admiraal werd in 1792 opgericht door de 90-jarige Elisabeth Admiraal, zij was de eerste eigenaresse. De laatste eigenaar die van de molen leefde, stopte er in 1954 mee. Na grondige restauratie is d'Admiraal in 1967 weer in werking gesteld. De molen, type achtkante bovenkruier met stelling, heeft nu een vrijwillige molenaar die de wieken regelmatig laat draaien. d'Admiraal is daarmee de enige werkende krijt- trasmolen op windkracht ter wereld.

Krijtmolen d'Admiraal (chalk mill) was built in 1792 by the 90-year-old Elisabeth Admiraal, who was its first owner. The last owner to have lived from the mill stopped doing so in 1954. After thorough restoration d'Admiraal was put into action once more in 1967. The mill, which is an octagonal smock windmill with gallery, now has a volunteer miller who regularly has the sails turn making d'Admiraal the world's only functioning wind-powered chalk-trass mill.

The history of the mill: Elisabeth Admiraal, born in 1702, widow of Roelof de Leeuw, ex alderman and mayor of Monnickendam, invested in the mill.
