Caro I Friderici Electuris Zaeringiaeo ue pucis sapientis et iusti lustrantia regni in itia Brisa censis veneratur civitas. Brisacum vetu tissimum Bris guviae oppidim nunc belli infortunio fractum liig ubi viderat serenissimum Carolum Fridericum Principem Electorem Badenslm quuni ex pacto pacis posoniensis Terra Zaringia abavis possessa ad suum redet dominum clemetissimo Patri pa priae monumentum IIoC laetissimo animo posuit.

"Die Stadt Breisach gedenkt der erleuchteten Anfänge der Regierung des weisen und gerechten Carl Friedrich, Kurfürst und Herzog von Zähringen. "Die als Versalien hervorgehobenen Buchstaben der Inschrift ergeben als römische Zahlen gelesen die Summe 1805, das Jahr der Aufstellung des ersten Denkmals (Chronogram).

[English translation]
The town of Breisach commemorates the enlightened beginnings of the reign of the wise and just Carl Friedrich, Elector and Duke of Zähringen. "The letters of the inscription, highlighted in capital letters, read as Roman numerals, add up to 1805, the year the first monument (chronogram) was erected.
"Breisach, the oldest town in Breisgau and now shattered by the misfortune of war: erected this monument in the most joyful spirit to the most gracious father of the fatherland on the spot where they saw the Most Serene Fortress, Margrave Friedrich of Baden, to whom the land of Zähningen, which had been owned by the Habsburgs, returned through the Peace of Pressburg."

The monument of loyalty erected on the mountain of the good Eckart to the noble grandfather was renewed and consecrated by the citizens of Breisach on the festive day of the marriage of his grandson, Grand Duke Friedrich of Baden with Luise, the gracious royal daughter of Prussia on 20 September 1856.
