The Bank of Lee’s Summit began in 1868 as a private bank, founded by W. H. Colbern and Josiah Hargis. The name of the bank was the “Colbern & Hargis Bank.” By 1874, the bank was known as W. H. Colbern and Company owned by W. H. Colbern and A. H. Powell. In 1879, R. B. George and James Thornton became the owners. The new bank was R. B. George and Company. On February 20, 1884, the bank incorporated and became the Bank of Lee’s Summit, with R. B. George as President. Today Bank of Lee’s Summit is the oldest business in our Lee’s Summit community.

Hall/Younger Home
This site was the home of Nora Hall and her uncle, Thomas Coleman Younger. Built in 1876, the original house boasted large rooms, a splendid porch and an elegant dining room. Once owned by Allen Price, Station Master of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, the house eventually became the home of Belle Younger Hall and her daughter Nora. On September 20, 1889, it was the site of the funeral of Robert Ewing Younger, the youngest of the Younger brothers. In 1903, Cole Younger returned from prison and lived in the home until his death in 1916.
