This marker is one of at least 17 identical 9/11 memorial markers dedicated around the country by Alderwoods Group, a funeral services company; identical markers in the Chicago area can be found on firehouses in Chicago's Dunning neighborhood and in suburban Elmwood Park, and in front of municipal buildings in suburban Stickney and Forest View. While an article about the unveiling of this marker could not be found, it had to
have been dedicated between 2002 and 2006, which were the only years the company existed. Alderwoods was formed in 2002 after the funeral services company Loewen Group emerged from bankruptcy; it was acquired by Service Corporation International in 2006.
