Manchester in Coffee County, Tennessee — The American South (East South Central)
Little Duck River Greenway Overlook
You are now approaching the Town Square. The original settlement of Manchester began in 1812, when a Mr. Eastland established a tavern at the foot on the hill known as Stone Fort Tavern. This was on the old stage route between Winchester and Nashville. The name Manchester originated in reference to the belief of town promoters that location along the Little Duck River would allow for successful growth and prosperity, similar to that in Manchester England. On March 1, 1836, 200 acres were deeded to the Commissioners of Coffee County for a County seat. To the right of the Greenway sits the original Spring that provided drinking water to the town.
