1. The Hiram Douglas House Marker

Inscription. The Reverend Hiram Douglas (1813-1865) a prominent religious figure in southeastern Tennessee, built this simple one-story red brick dwelling in 1851. He came to the area to do missionary work among the Cherokee Indians and stayed with them until their removal in 1838. Instrumental in the organization of the Georgetown Academy in 1847, the Reverend Douglas aided in the establishment of many early Cumberland Presbyterian churches in the area.
