Overhoeks is het voormalige Shell-terrein aan het IJ. Het gebied is vernoemd naar de kantoortoren die Koninklijke Shell in 1965 liet bouwen voor onder meer de directie. Deze Overhoeks-toren is een van de iconen in de skyline van Amsterdam. Veel voormalige Shellgebouwen hebben plaatsgemaakt voor een woon- en werkwijk. Alleen het industriλle Groot Lab en de Shell-toren Overhoeks, blijven behouden.

Overhoeks was previously Shell territory on the IJ river. The area is named after the office blocks that Royal Dutch Shell had built in 1965 for staff and management. The Overhoeks tower is one of the icons of Amsterdam's skyline. Many Shell buildings have given way to a residential and office area. The only buildings that remain are the industrial Groot Lab ( (illegible) in laboratory) and the Overhoeks tower.

4. Overhoeks - looking northwest (taken from the south side of the IJ)
Overhoeks is a new mixed-use neighbourhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands in the borough of Amsterdam-Noord directly across the IJ river (technically a lake) from the city's central station. It is located on the former Royal Dutch Shell Research facility grounds. Construction of apartments and condominiums began in 2007 and the plan is for a total of 2200 units to be built, mixed in with 130,000 square metres (1,400,000 sq ft) of office, retail, and cultural space. Shell Technology Centre remains here with 1200 employees. Shell's Overhoeks Tower, the neighbourhood's namesake, was rebranded as ADAM Toren (Amsterdam Dance And Music) by brand consultancy The Stone Twins in January 2014. The tower was redeveloped into a mix of offices, entertainment venues, a hotel, a revolving restaurant and an observation deck that boasts Europe's highest swing.
