Lutherse Kerk

Lutheran Church
In 1628, a group of Lutherans from Hoorn founded a church community. This church from 1768 was built in rococo style by Jacob Hart. The church contains an organ by Pieter Mόller from 1773, also built in rococo style. To the left of the church is the former sexton's house with a swan in the skylight, the symbol of Lutheranism.

In Hoorn, the Lutheran community took shape from 1628 onwards. This beautiful Lutheran church from 1768 replaced the original clandestine church from 1632. This church was hidden behind houses on the Ramen. The clandestine church was accessible via the Tempelsteeg. A clandestine church was not allowed to be recognisable as a church, and therefore the use of, for example, typical church windows was prohibited. In the course of the 17th century, the open adherence to other faiths was permitted and

therefore new church buildings appeared everywhere in Dutch cities. In this way, the Lutheran community also found a new home. This church was allowed to be visible and was given a facade on the Ramen, which was beautifully designed in rococo style. The facade has a special shape that is reminiscent of a shell, which fits in perfectly with the rococo. The entrance is in the projecting central section and has a beautiful frame. Rococo was actually an interior art, inspired by the elegant architecture of the French court. There was a preference for asymmetrical and graceful lines, as can be seen in the lines of this facade. The front of the restored Mόller organ is also a beautiful example of rococo and was created in 1773.
