Inscription.  
Vijf traveeλn breed woonhuis waarvan de gevel dateert uit het midden van de 18e eeuw. Het pand is gebouwd op de plaats van het voormalige Geertenklooster. Van dit klooster zijn in het pand nog enige restanten aanwezig.

De Hoornse kamer van de Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie was hier tot omstreeks 1685 gevestigd.

In 2000 is het woonhuis gerestaureerd door de architecten Hangelbroek Gouwetor. De restauratie is uitgevoerd door aannemingsbedrijf Dick de Boer in opdracht van de familie Ettema.

(English translation:)
Five-bay wide house with a facade dating from the middle of the 18th century. The building was built on the site of the former Geertenklooster. Some remains of this monastery are still present in the building.

The Hoorn chamber of the Dutch East India Company was located here until around 1685.

In 2000 the house was restored by the architects Hangelbroek Gouwetor. The restoration was carried out by the construction company Dick de Boer on behalf of the Ettema family.

The stately mansion Nieuwstraat 18, in the middle of the historic city center of Hoorn, has a long and colorful history. At the beginning of the fifteenth century, the Sint Geertenklooster was established on this site. After the nuns, the Lords Bewindhebbers of the VOC took over the building. Nieuwstraat 18 would then be inhabited by a colorful collection of owners, such as a merchant, an Officer of Justice, a notary, a lawyer, a cheese merchant, wealthy widows and several doctors...
