Monumental 18th century mansion, interior stucco decoration in hall, carved banister and period rooms in Louis XVI style. In 1854 part of the corner building, called 'De Zaal' was demolished; the land that became available became a garden with an iron fence around it. Until 1963 the building served as a Roman Catholic Military Home and Roman Catholic Companion Home. After that it became a branch of the Westfries Museum, called 'Het huis Verloren'. In 1984 it became the property of the municipality of Hoorn and was transferred to private hands. Between 1985 and 1987 the interior and exterior were restored on the orders of the B.J.F. Kerkstraat 10 (ErfgoedHoorn.nl, in Dutch). Excerpt (in translation):
This beautiful building at Kerkstraat 10 was built in the second half of the 18th century. The house owes its monumentality to the symmetrical construction of the facade, the monumental entrance and the beautiful large windows. The entrance has a beautiful wooden frame with a decorated fanlight. We also call this a carving window. Above you can see beautiful sculpture. This type of decoration with leaves, fruit and/or flowers is called a festoon. The entrance is accessible via the landing that is also part of the monument.(Submitted on April 1, 2025.)
