Opdrachtgever Parochie Heilige Martelaren van Gorcum
Bouwjaren 1924-1928
Architect Alexander Jacobus Kropholler (1881-1973)
Commissioned by Parochie Heilige Martelaren van Gorcum (Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Parish)
Years of construction 1924-1928
The parish HH Martelaren van Gorcum (Martyrs of Gorcum) was founded in Watergraafsmeer early in the 20th century. The parish board commissioned Kropholler to design a 'Roman Catholic court'. The Linnaeushof (court) was built between 1924 and 1935. It was a Catholic enclave that included the Hofkerk (church), Claraklooster (convent), schools, shops and houses. The complex was inspired by the Begijnhof (inner courtyard with alms houses) and represented the ideal of a harmonious village community.
