Inscription. Each student at the Los Alamos Ranch School (1917-1943) was assigned a horse, responsible for its care, and required to learn horsemanship. Since the Ranch School curriculum included Scouting, they established Troop 22 in Los Alamos, and was the first mounted (horseback) troop in the country. Troop 22 continues in Los Alamos today, and is the third oldest Boy Scout Troop in the United States.

The hitching rail and bench were constructed in 2023 for the Los Alamos Historical Society as an Eagle Scout Project by Miles Iverson of Troop 22.
