Inscription.
After the famous Yellow Aster Gold Mine was discovered up the road in 1895, many other smaller but rich lode mines were also located. The Consolidated Gold Mine was one of them! This is a hard-rock mine and the gold ore needed to be blasted out to process. But here in the historical Rand Mining District, there are many areas where the gold was more easily extracted by using dry-washers as it was 'placer gold' (gold that had already eroded naturally out of the mountains and hills).

During World War II, many gold mines in California were shut down, and when the war ended many of them never opened back up again. Enjoy our history here and stay safe!
