Hug Residence
Armand Oscar Hug (1910-1977), pianist and composer, lived here at 1545 Camp Place from 1931 to 1972. Marrying into the very musical Loyocano family, he shared this residence with them, as well as pianist Oakley Joseph Dodd (1909-1984), aka Bob Doyle, also married to a Loyocano sister. He played at the Fern Cafe in the Tango Belt in 1926, and was famous as a solo cocktail pianist, with a huge and varied repertoire, at many locations including the Pontchartrain Hotel, Musso's Lounge, The Golliwog Lounge, and the Esplanade Room at the Royal Orleans Hotel. He recorded with Sharkey Bonano in New York in 1936, and played and recorded throughout the years in bands led by Sharkey Bonano, Dr. Edmond Souchon, and Doc Evans.
