Inscription.
This narrow Italianate dwelling is atypical for the Garden District, where most late Victorian examples are double-galleried residences. Its picturesque asymmetry and sophisticated detailing recall the spirit of Italianate designs for smaller dwellings or "cottages" popularized in architectural design books. In 1883, Dr. Samuel White Logan, who lived with his large family nearby in today's 2221 Prytania Street, commissioned the construction of this charming house. After the early deaths of their parents in the 1890s, the Logan children sold the larger dwelling and resided in this home, which remained the nexus of the extended Logan family until 1977. In 1979, Maxine Green Fox and architect Barry Maxwell Fox fortuitously became the new owners, creatively fashioning the little villa into an enticing home filled with a treasure trove of furniture and art. While honoring the late Victorian exterior detailing, Fox molded the interior to reflect the couple's preference for Neoclassical design, adding informal rooms with banks of windows overlooking the luxuriant gardens.
