When Minneapolis grocer James T. Williams invented Creamettes in 1912, they were considered revolutionary. With thinner walls and a larger opening, they cooked in one-third the time of traditional macaroni.
He first sold Creamettes through Mother's Macaroni Company, a few blocks away on 3rd Avenue North, but they were so popular, Williams was able to buy the company, rename it Creamette, and move to this facility in 1916. He put the likeness of his daughter, Peg, on the packaging. The company was sold to Borden in 1979.
Designed by architects Long & Kees with a Richardsonian style low Syrian arch, this building was originally used as a farm implement warehouse for the Champion line of binders, mowers and reapers.
Erected by North Loop Neighborhood Association.
