This monument has been erected by the People of Athlone
to the memory of their young townsman,

1876 - 1903
———————————
Cut off in the opening of a most promising career,
he has left to the young men of his native town
a striking example of ardent love of country,
and zeal for the advancement of his countrymen.
"Be his epitaph writ on his country's mind
He served his country and loved his kind."
A.D. 1906.

Is iad muintir Bhaile Átha Luain a chuir
an séadchomhartha seo in airde
i gcuimhne a bhfear óg baile,
John Joseph Walsh, Aturnae.
1876 - 1903
——————————
Gearr amach in oscailt slí bheatha is bisiúla,
tá sé fágtha ag fir óga a bhaile dúchais
sampla iontach de ghrá na tíre,
agus díograis do dhul chun cinn a mhuintire.
“Bíodh a scríbhinn epitaph ar intinn a thíre
Rinne sé seirbhís dá thír agus bhí grá aige dá chineál."
A.D., 1906.
