Sodus Point in Wayne County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Blessing of the Murals
On May 8th, 2011, as we were preparing to mount the second mural on this wall, it was discovered that the shadow of the cross from the nearby Sodus Point Episcopal Church was transitioning over the Native American Fishing mural.
Over the next few weeks it was observed that the shadow of the cross transitioned over the Battle of Sodus Point mural, as well. Amazingly beginning at 6:19 PM, each year on the anniversary of the Battle of Sodus Point, June 19th, the center of the shadow of the cross passes over the American patriot, Asher Warner. He was killed and is considered the hero of the battle. The shadow never goes beyond this point and begins to move north again after the summer solstice. One final coincidence, should also be pointed out. Between June 1st and the summer solstice, the shadow of the cross makes daily transitions across the mural covering numerous locations on the second mural. At various times during that period, every figure in the mural will be touched by some part of the shadow of the cross.
Below are the times of the transitions. It should be noted that it takes a number of days for the transitions to totally cross a mural as they move only a few inches per day. Collectively, we have decided to call these transitions The Blessing of the Murals.
