Coliseum Square
The Grand Italianate house was built for E.T. Robinson around 1856 (pre-Civil War, before Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated president). Attributed to architect Louis E. Reynolds.
Commencing 1884, Miss Sophie B. Wright's House Institute, an English and classical school for young ladies and children and later the city's first free night school.
Organized in 1914 (incorporated in 1917) and until the 1970's known as the Catherine Club, a boarding house which provided young women social and academic training. scholarships and job assistance with the motto, "I serve," and a mission statement. "The city's big sister to the worthy girl."
