Inscription. Built in memory of those who discovered and developed the East Texas Oil Field which has produced in excess of 4.5 billion barrels of oil.

Donated by Placid Oil Company, Dallas, Texas

Dedicated by Governor William P. Clements, Jr. on October 5, 1980, the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the East Texas Field.
