Thomas Abell Sr.
Thomas Abell Sr. was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, having fought in Vermont at the Battle of Bennington, as well as the battles at Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point in upstate New York. Mr. Abell came to Fredonia in 1813 to set up his homestead with his oldest son Mosley Abell, who had relocated here from Buffalo at that time. But, Thomas Abell Sr. was not long to live in Fredonia, as he passed away the following year in 1814 a day after his 65th birthday.
Mosley Abell and his younger brother Thomas G. Abell remained in Fredonia after their father's death, becoming involved in a number of successful business ventures while caring for their widowed mother. Mrs. Abell remained in Fredonia until her death in 1841.
