1. The Home of Joseph Borough Marker

Inscription. In 1829, Illinois law established Macoupin County. “All business of the court” took place near here, at the home of Joseph Borough until the first log cabin courthouse was built in 1830. Here, the first County Sheriff, County Coroner and County Commissioners were appointed.

Turn around, head west on East Main Street and return to the City Square to conclude the 1.4 mile round trip. Or continue on the 3.6 mile trip, go to Site 9 of Trail 2. Head west on East Main Street, turn right on College Avenue to 700 College Avenue.

and his family moved to an area of Greene County, Illinois, that would become part of Macoupin County. Borough became a strong advocate for the creation of Macoupin County, lobbying for it before the General Assembly.
