1. Sourcing Materials Marker

Inscription. Black powder was made by mixing three ingredients: charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter (potassium nitrate). Charcoal could be created onsite using the plentiful willow trees along the Brandywine. But sulfure had to be imported from Sicily. Saltpeter was shipped from India. From the start, the DuPont company operated on an international scale.
