1. First Airmail Delivery in New Jersey Marker
Inscription. During the first week of August, 1912 the first airmail delivery in New Jersey took place between Ocean City and Stone Harbor. Flying the twenty miles in twenty-nine minutes, the Curtiss pusher single engine, chain driven twin propeller aircraft used the beach as a landing strip.

Over 500 pieces of mail were delivered that week as part of a demonstration of the feasibility of airmail delivery. Six years later, in 1918, the US Post Office started regularly scheduled airmail service between Washington D.C. and New York.
