1. Fitz-Greene Halleck Marker
An early American poet, Fitz-Greene Halleck was honored with a statue in New York's Central Park. Although he enjoyed a distinguished career in New York City, he was born (1790) and raised on the west side of the Green near this spot, and was buried (1867) in Guilford. Halleck's satirical wit and lyrical expression made him one of the most favored poets of his time.
