Beginning in the mid-1800s, the area of Spring Hill began to see a steady rise in population. Many of its new residents came from the German communities in the valley below, which now began to spread upwards over the surrounding hillsides. This memorial, honoring those from the neighborhood who served in World War II, was later amended to also pay tribute to the veterans of Vietnam.
