Inscription. The original plan for Westhampton or "Back Neighborhood" was created by M. H. Omoundro in 1910. It was laid out with 61 lots along Midway Road with no cross streets. Westhampton was predominantly settled by African Americans with the initial property owners from nearby Sleepy Hollow and Ziontown communities. Some of the original homes still stand. A few of the families have resided or owned property along this street for generations. At one time an adjacent lot owned by the United Sons and Daughters of Jerusalem accommodated a school and meeting hall for area residents.
