Inscription. E Clampus Vitus was conceived in the mountains of West Virginia by Ephraim Bee and brought to the mother lode of California by Joe Zumwalt who was seeking fortune. Once established it spread through the diggin like wildfire and has grown from its 19th century roots into 21st century organization dedicated to the preservation be the history of the Trans-Mississippi west it presently exist in ten western states. It is here that we honor those chapters and individuals who helped make ECV the grand brotherhood that it is today.
