1. Jamestown Hotel Marker
Inscription.
In 1856 the John Rocca Saloon was located in John Pereira's original Jamestown Hotel, which was on Main Street, North of this site. It was destroyed by fire in December 1896. In 1919 this building was constructed and it became the Jamestown Hotel, owned by David Martinez. It was referred to as the Spanish Hotel because so many Spanish miners made it their home. Local lore claims the building was also a mortuary and bordello. During the 1930's the building was being run by Dr. Donald L. Farrell as the Mother Lode hospital. In the 1950's it was converted to a rooming house and in the 1970's was reconverted to a hotel and restaurant. Today the town's landmark Jamestown Hotel is owned and operated by Charlie Morgan.
