Perrigrine Sessions Dugout
| | Bountiful Area Historical Site | |
Three days after his arrival in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 Perrigrine Sessions was sent out by Brigham Young to find grazing land for church cattle. His wagon cut the first tracks between the Salt Lake settlement and what later became Sessions Settlement. For a time he and his family lived in their covered wagon, but before winter they had carved themselves a dugout in an embankment. Here they spent the first winter which fortunately was mild. Next spring a small log cabin was built near the dugout, this being the first of many homes built by Perrigrine Sessions for his growing family. The location of that dugout, Bountiful's first pioneer home, was approximately 200 feet west of this marker.
Erected by Bountiful City.
