Inscription. This grand one-and-one-half story Victorian home was built by Horton Adams Eldredge in 1894. This house was originally a one-story plan with a hipped roof. Early in the home's history, the upper story was enlarged with gabled ends and dormer windows. A projected bay with a bay window was also added to the south facade. The home features five fireplaces, transom windows and a solid walnut staircase. The two-story brick carriage house to the rear was constructed several years after the home was completed. The carriage house originally featured an ornate cupola and served for a time as the area creamery. For over one hundred years, area residents have enjoyed the ice-cold, crystal clear water that flows from two artesian wells on this property.

Horton was the youngest of five children born August 22, 1872, to Horace and Hannah Eldredge. Horton was a founding director of Farmers State Bank and a successful rancher. Horace married Lilly Ann Hatch on October 6, 1892. Together they raised six children. Between the years 1918 and 1926, Horton conveyed title of the property to his children and his brother Clarence.
