1. Clarence and Effie Eldredge House Marker

Inscription. This grand two-story Victorian Eclectic-style home was built in 1904 by Clarence and Effie Peck Eldredge. The exterior of the home is hard-fired red brick, with rough-brick accents. The gables, eaves and porch are trimmed with ornamental motifs. The interior of the home has changed very little and still retains the decorative molding, pocket doors, lincrusta wall coverings, leaded-beveled glass windows and three original fireplaces. The front interior hall features an elaborate staircase. The carriage house west of the home was built later and is accented with arches and many beautiful decorative brick details. Inside were stalls for horses and an area to store the carriage. The carriage house also had a stairway leading to a loft where hay was stored. In February of 1993, the roof of the carriage house caved in due to a heavy snow fall, destroying a good portion of the upper level of the structure. The loft has been reconstructed and is fully usable. Flowing wells still provide cool, crystal-clear water to residents of the property.

Clarence Eldredge was born in 1868 to Horace and Hannah Eldredge. As a young man, Clarence

established a large cattle ranch in Gentile Valley, Idaho. While living in Idaho, Clarence met Effie Mabel Peck and they were married. They were the parents of six children, all of whom were raised in this home. Clarence Eldredge was a founding director of the Bountiful State Bank.
