1. Stoke Damerel Parish Church Marker
Inscription. A church has stood here for over seven centuries. The oldest parts of the present building are the tower, features of the porches and the north wall.

In the eighteenth century the building was greatly enlarged to accommodate the growing population drawn here by the expansion of the Royal Dockyard.

Ships' timbers, supplied by the Admiralty in 1750, are said to have been used to construct and support the roof.

Throughout all these changes, this ancient building has served the same purpose. This is the House of God and we invite you to worship here.
