Inscription.
Sergeant Hacker served as an infantryman with Company C, First Battalion, Twenty-Second Infantry Regiment, Fourth Infantry Division. Near Pleiku, Dontum, in the Central Highlands, during an engagement with the enemy, when he exposed himself to heavy fire to carry a wounded comrade to safety, he was mortally wounded. For his actions, Ronald Hacker was awarded the Silver Star. Born in Weston, West Virginia, he attended Washington High School and was employed by the Nye Drilling Company of East Canton. He was survived by his wife, Darelynn Hacker; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hacker of Massillon; his mother, Mrs. Virginia Hacker, of Fort Worth, Texas; and five siblings. He was laid to rest in Brookfield Cemetery, Massillon.
