Inscription.
Lance Corporal Fuchs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fuchs of Massillon, lost his life when the helicopter in which he was a passenger crashed into the South China Sea. Among the other eight passengers were two lifelong friends, Timothy Berry and William Coyne, also of Massillon. The three enlisted in the Marine Corps together and served together throughout their service. They were eventually assigned to Company C, First Shore Party Battalion, First Marine Division at Chu Lai. Their deaths raised controversy about the "buddy system," which provided only that persons could stay together through their training period. Lance Corporal Fuchs, a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, was interred at Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon.
