Inscription.
Lance Corporal Coyne, a member of Company C, First Shore Party Battalion, First Marine Division, was killed along with eight other Marines when the UH-34 helicopter in which he was a passenger, crashed after apparent engine trouble. Also killed were two other Massillon Marines, Lance Corporals Timothy Berry and Richard Fuchs. The three lifelong friends had enlisted, trained, and served in the Marine Corps throughout their Vietnam tour. Born in Canton, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Coyne of Massillon was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Massillon.
