Sergeant Maddox was in the first month of his second Vietnam tour when he was killed by a sniper's bullet. At that time, he served with Company E, Fourth Battalion, Third Infantry (The Old Guard), assigned to the Eleventh Infantry Brigade in I Corps. He had prior overseas duty in Thailand. The husband of Jean Maddox and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Maddox, he was born in Massillon, where he attended Washington High School. A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he was an Eagle Scout in Troop 16. In addition to his wife and parents, Maddox was survived by a son, John, and a daughter, Jean Rae. He was preceded in death by sons, Douglas Ray and Paul, Jr. He is buried at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
