A career soldier of thirteen years and a helicopter flight engineer with the First Cavalry Division, Specialist Sixth Class Bair died when his aircraft was shot down by small arms fire northeast of Saigon. Born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bair of Massillon and the husband of Esther Bair of Mansfield. The Bairs had six children. Prior to joining the Army, he attended Washington High School and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Massillon. Charles Jacob Bair is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
