Albert Neuhuys
The introduction to Jacob Maris' art was a revelation for Albert Neuhuys. He moved to The Hague and became a celebrated painter, known for his paintings of couples in love in Scheveningen. He achieved great success with Vissersvrijage (The Fisherman's Fancy), purchased by the Rijksmuseum. Following Jozef Israλls, Neuhuys discovered the village of Laren. This is where the genre for which he became famous originated: Laren interiors with mother and offspring. His works were particularly popular in England and America. From 1900, Neuhuys lived on the Sarphatikade in Amsterdam. After his sudden death, the artists' association Arti et Amicitiae honoured him with a large, well-attended memorial exhibition.
