Inscription.
Sgt. Mike Barkey, age 22, a four year Ohio National Guard veteran enlisted in October of 2000 and was killed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned to the 1484th Transportation Company, 1st Infantry Division, Ohio National Guard, Akron. The son of Hal and Julie Barkey was born in Canton, OH. Mike was a 2000 graduate of Northwest High School where he played Football as #33 and Basketball for the Northwest Indians. He completed an associate degree at University of Akron in Fire Protection Technology and was an EMT. Mike Barkey, a member of SS. Philip and James Roman Catholic Church, is buried in the parish cemetery. Mike is survived by his parents and siblings, Todd, Jennifer, John, Therese and Tony.
