SSG. Richard P. Ramey, age 27, a nine year Army Veteran, enlisted in the Army September 1995, was killed while trying to disarm a roadside bomb that detonated during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Mahmudiyah, Iraq. He was serving the 703rd Ordnance Company, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Knox, Kentucky. The son of Jerry and Julia Ramey was born in Canton, OH. Richie graduated from Perry High School in 1995 where he was active with the Boy Scouts, played baseball and was a guard on the Perry Panther football team. SSG Ramey served in Kosovo in 2000 and as an explosive ordinance specialist at the White House. He is survived by his parents and his sister Sarah Beverlin. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Perry Township, OH.
