More about this marker. Per the Government of Canada:

The Madoc Cenotaph was unveiled with full military honours on November 28, 1928 and dedicated to the men of Madoc and vicinity who gave their lives during the First World War. The community owes a heartfelt appreciation to the Madoc Women's Institute who undertook the project, to the public spiritedness of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, and the community effort.

Later, the names of those lost in the Second World War where engraved on the back. A plaque acknowledging the Korean War was added on the front of the base.
