Cartersville in Bartow County, Georgia — The American South (South Atlantic)
Art in Bartow
Art in Bartow: This painting represents the four areas of the arts taught in schools under the National Standard for The Arts drama, dance, visual arts and music. Four local artists incorporated Bartow County images into iconic paintings by historically recognized artists. Ten school children participated in the painting while learning about the mural process. This project could not have been possible without the support of our community vendors, sponsors, volunteers, County Commissioner, Cartersville Mayor and City Council.
Drama through Realism
Edward Hopper (1882-1962) was widely known as the most important realist painter of twentieth century America. In reference to Hopper's famous theater paintings, the long-time Director of Grand Theater, Don Kordecki (1931 to 2010) is shown on stage at the Grand Theater. He was instrumental in promoting Bartow County community arts over several decades.
Dance through Pop and Street Art
Keith Haring (1958-1990) was an American artist whose pop art grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1970's-1990's. Four of his iconic figures are represented with Bartow County's high school colors as forms of baller, break and modern dance.
Visual Arts through Impressionism
Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) was a post-impressionist painter. His famous painting Starry Night includes images of the 1902 Bartow County gold-domed courthouse, and the Etowah Indian Mounds. Even our trains get acknowledged.
Music through Cubism and Abstract art
Pablo Picasso's (1881-1973) famous painting, Three Musicians incorporates Western hats as a nod to Bartow's nationally-recognized Booth Western Art Museum a Smithsonian Affiliate. The depiction of a fiddle, guitar and upright bass represent the annual Cartersville Bluegrass & Roots Festival held each year in historic downtown Cartersville.
Art in Bartow
The painting was coordinated by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Cartersville-Bartow County, Inc. (CAA) through the efforts of the Art in Bartow Visual Arts Committee.
