1. The Bohler Family Marker
Mr. Lewis Penrose Bohler, Sr. was a railroad and postal employee as well as treasurer and church clerk for Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was Deputy Grand Master for the Prince Hall Masons of Georgia. He and his wife Margie had 7 children, all graduates of the Haines Normal and Industrial Institute. Henry Bohler became a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, while Lewis Bohler, Jr. had a distinguished career of more than 50 years as an Episcopal priest and social activist. Many visited and stayed with the Bohlers, including Martin Luther King, Jr. and Sr.

The King family would stay with the Bohler family on Phillips Street, a connection rooted in shared faith and deep friendships. In December 2023, a historic marker was placed in front of the Bohler home to commemorate this significant chapter in Dr. Kings early life.
