Inscription.  
Die Bürgerweide war im 19. Jahrhundert der Standort für Einrichtungen, die als geruchs- oder lärmintensiv oder gar feuergefährlich galten. Dazu zählte neben dem Gaswerk (in Höhe des heutigen Bahnhof-Ausgangs Nord gelegen) und dem Schlachthof auch das Elektrizitätswerk.

Der erste Bau wurde 1893 in Betrieb genommen und bereits 1913 wieder abgerissen. Ihm folgte als Backsteinbau das Kernstück des noch heute erhaltenen ehemaligen Stadtwerke-Hauses.

Bauliche Erweiterungen folgten in den Jahren 1953/54 und 1967.

Seit 1999 sind die einstigen Stadtwerke privatisiert. Das Gebäude wird heute von den Gesellschaften der swb- Gruppe, einem privaten Energieversorger, genutzt.

In the 19th century, the Bürgerweide was the site of facilities considered odorous, noisy, or even fire-hazardous. These included the gasworks (located at the current north exit of the train station) and the slaughterhouse, as well as the power plant.

Extensions followed in 1953/54 and 1967.

The former municipal utility company has been privatized since 1999. The building is now occupied by companies of the swb Group, a private energy supplier. (Marker Number 9.)
