1. Cooper’s Cave Marker

Inscription. Cooper's novel has been adapted for every kind of media, from films to operas, from comic books to children's stories. The words "Last of the...", no matter when or where they are used, always imply a reference to Cooper's title.

Movies: Though silent shorts based on Cooper were filmed in 1909 and 1911, the first serious film version of The Last of the Mohicans was made in 1920. Since then about a dozen film versions have been made, some of them in cartoon form.

Of these, the best known are the 1920 film, the 1936 version starring Randolph Scott, and the 1992 film starring Daniel Day Lewis.

Comics: "Mohicans" was Classic Comic's No. Four title, and remained in print, with changing artwork, for generations.

Operas: Two full-length operas have been made from Cooper's novel: one (in Italian) by Paul Allen in 1916, and another by Alva Henderson in 1978.

Adaptations: Cooper's novel has been adapted for children in America and all over the world, in dozens of forms.
